Amazon Web Services and Apache
We have been using Amazon Web Services (AWS) of late via Rightscale. Well recently there was a failure in our web service and after some poking around it wasn’t the EC2 instance that failed (phew) but simply Apache (2+) had run afoul. A quick apache stop/start did the trick (a graceful apache restart didn’t seem to do it). I had not encountered an Apache failure before, so now I may check that one off the list. Of course, in preparation for any potential EC2 failure, it is time to stand up another production ready server, balance the load across both, then migrate the database to the Master/Slave partnership that has been raring to go for a week.
It has been nice to move off of shared hosting services. It has provided a great learning experience. Now back to it….
