The Wheeler Street Team
Aaron Begley - Experience Designer / Developer
Since 1997 Aaron Begley has worked to bridge the gap between the designer and the developer for software product companies and design studios. His experience with companies such as Fractal Design, MetaCreations, Macromedia and Adobe have led to a deep customer focus and strong UI skills in technologies that power rich internet|desktop experiences.
Aaron has been consulting with Wheeler Street Design since 2006, designing and implementing visually compelling, data driven applications for a variety of clients. During this time he has focused intently on object-oriented programming and agile application development processes.
Scarlett Chidgey - Communications Specialist
Scarlett Chidgey is a communications specialist with a B.S. in Journalism from Boston University. She spent seven years in the science communications field, primarily as a writer/editor and project manager. In the last two years, her focus has turned to web development, where she has contributed her skills as project coordinator, producer, and developer for commercial, nonprofit, and educational web sites. Scarlett also volunteers as the Program Manager for the Alliance for International Women’s Rights, a New-York based nonprofit dedicated to supporting women’s rights organizations in Central Asia.
Jeremy Giovannetti - Partner / Developer
Jeremy has been a web developer for four years after graduating
from UC Berkeley and serving the biotechnology sector for five
years. He was a Founding Engineer for Chirp Interactive, Inc.,
engineering a PHP/MySQL/XML/memcached web service to support
screensaver, desktop and web applications. Jeremy has developed
user-authenticated API connections to Facebook, Flickr, Twitter,
and eBay, as well as migrated hosting services to Amazon Web
Services, providing a foundation for scalable hosting. He has
worked extensively with Zend Framework and Drupal (PHP), while
also developing in ActionScript 3 / Flex (Flash), Visual Basic,
and Mac OS X (Cocoa). Jeremy also dabbled in the writing field,
co-authoring “Genomes and Databases on the Internet” (2002,
Horizon Scientific Press).
Dave Held - Partner / Developer
Dave has designed and developed rich Internet applications, user interfaces, web sites and corporate branding for web technology companies since 1999 and as a full-time partner/consultant of Wheeler Street Design since early 2005.
While convinced by experience that most languages can be learned on the go within a few weeks, projects completed so far have used open source tools (and frameworks) such as Actionscript 3 (Flex, AIR), PHP (Zend, Drupal), MySQL, JavaScript (Prototype, Scriptaculous), AJAX, Apache, JSP, XML, XSLT; open APIs like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr; and proprietary stuff like ASP, .NET, MS SQL, IIS, Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator.
Dave graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a B.A. in Political Science.
Paul Rangel - Partner / Developer
A graduate from the UC Berkeley Plant Genetics program, Paul took a position as a research
associate at Mendel Biotechnology where he was quickly drawn to computing and the
Internet. At the biotechnology start up, he learned HTML, shell programming, and Perl. He
continued to develop computer skills as a lab manger for the NSF Potato Genome project,
where he set up the web infrastructure on a SUN SPARC with PHP, Apache, and MySQL.
Paul went on to program for NASA as an employee with Mains Associates. While there, he
also completed a book for Horizon Scientific Press with Jeremy Giovannetti entitled
“Genomes and Databases on the Internet” and established Wheeler Street Design. Paul
continued taking computing courses at Ohio State University, while a laboratory supervisor.
